Air crash ‘unsurvivable’

-

The rescue helicopter crew that flew over the scene of a light-plane crash in the Southern Alps believe the crash was “unsurvivable”. The plane, with one person onboard, was reported overdue on Thursday at 11am after it took off from Franz Josef at 9am, heading for Rangiora. The Canterbury Westpac Rescue Helicopter located the aircraft near Mt Nicholson at McCoy Glacier, on the eastern side of the Southern Alps. Attempts to get a rescue team to the site are on hold due to bad weather.
