Injured jockey remains in coma

- Michael Guerin

Injured jockey Taiki Yanagida remains in an induced coma and in critical care in Waikato Hospital after a race fall at Cambridge on Wednesday.

Yanagida has severe brain and spinal cord injuries but doctors say they may attempt to bring him out of the coma to better diagnose the extent of his brain injury in two or three days.

Yanagida’s mother Kayano and sister Chiaki are now with him in Hamilton after arriving in Auckland from Japan yesterday morning, assisted by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing.
