British ambassador detained
Myanmar has detained a former British ambassador and her husband amid a continued crackdown on prodemocracy supporters triggered by the military junta’s 2021 coup. Vicky Bowman and her husband, Htein Lin, an artist, were said to have been detained on Thursday and are being held in the notorious Insein prison on the outskirts of Yangon. It is understood they were charged with failing to register a new address with the authorities after moving to a different town. The immigration law carries a jail sentence of between six months and five years.
