UK seeks China change

-

Britain will push for change in China after an “appalling” UN report found “crimes against humanity” may have been committed against Uyghurs, Liz Truss has said. The highly anticipated report, compiled by Michelle Bachelet, high commissioner for human rights, was released on Thursday just before her tenure ended without a successor in place. There were fears it would be a whitewash after academics accused Bachelet of failing to adequately condemn Beijing after her visit to Xinjiang but Uyghurs, Kazhakhs and rights activists welcomed it yesterday. Truss, the Foreign Secretary said the UK has already imposed sanctions on senior Chinese government officials and announced measures to prevent any more UK companies being “complicit in these violations” through supply chains.
