Weekend Herald

A quick word

-

To assuage those distressed at the auctioning of the BNZ art collection, in my unprofessional opinion, the vast majority lack much in the way of artistic merit anyway, particularly the higher-priced ones. John Olesen,

St Heliers Bay.

This is the last weekend Aucklanders can make a submission telling our council what we think regarding intensification changes (Plan 78). It is an easy process which I would recommend to all who care about our city. Chris Chrystall, Epsom.

It’s lucky that the cherry blossom trees grow in Christchurch, as if they grew in Auckland they would be chopped down. June Krebs, Sunnyhills.

Is John Roughan (WH, Sept. 17) the only person in the world who didn’t get the fact that King Charles III and his family were enduring a marathon public mourning process? Charles is human. And old. Give the man a break. J Edwards, Coatesville.

I’d be jumpy about ink on my suit and hands if my mother had just died and we’d been rushing around my kingdom signing stuff before she’d even been buried. But I must say, Camilla rose in my estimation as a calming, low-key presence.

Mary Tallon, Hauraki.

Queue it like Beckham. What a legend. Imagine being right next to him, that would have been so cool.

Glenn Forsyth, Taupo¯.

I enjoyed reading John Roughan’s observations (WH, Sept. 17) surrounding the reign of Elizabeth ll. A welcome departure from his more controversial role. John Norris, Whangamata¯.

I’m glad John Roughan (WH, Sept.17) isn’t doing my performance review. No doubt I’d be fired. Mary Hearn, Glendowie.

Rajiv Thind (WH, Sept. 17) perfectly summarised the British Monarchy. Time to wake up to reality.

Vijay Nyayapati, Blockhouse Bay.

A headline (WH, Sept. 17) reads. “Ardern will have two audiences with the new monarch”. “Meetings” would sound less obsequious.

Fiona Sneyd, Hamilton.

Wayne Brown thinks AT should serve the way we live, not try to change it. Does he understand the climate is in a death spiral?

Susan Grimsdell, Auckland Central.

It is a pity Charles Ma (WH, Sept. 17) is not running for Mayor of Auckland. He seems more capable and switched on than all the actual candidates put together.

John Deyell, Ellerslie.

For rape, home detention. For diddling the taxman, two years, three months in jail. Crazy. Ross James, Waitakere.

I can’t help but think the last-minute hiccup by the Australian team in the test match was payback for the under-arm bowling incident many years ago. Chris Blenkinsopp, Beach Haven.
