OPINIONS: FAVOURITE WRC CAR
Dean EVANS
I missed the mega Group B era, but I loved Group A. And for all its blue and gold, 555BAT, Colin McRae, flat-four barking sound iconery, it has to be the original GC8 Subaru Impreza WRX. Runner-up is the WRC 97 Subaru. Just don’t tell my Pulsar GTI-R . . .

Championship-winning WRC machines that are identifiably mainstream family cars are awesome. The Fiat 131 Abarth was the first, a giant-killer that took the title in 1977-78 and 1980. Previous winners had been more exotic: Alpine-Renault A110 and Lancia Stratos (okay, that’s awesome too).

I love Sega Rally: the Lancia Delta Integrale and Toyota Celica. Plus I bought a Subaru WRX. But it was great seeing a family saloon in the WRC, so the greatest of all time was the Legacy RS. My dad actually bought one of the first ones in to NZ.
