CLEAN CARS COMPARED

Hybrid, PHEV or BEV: check out our head-to-head video to see which suits you best

-

The Government’s Clean Car Discount has excited and enticed a whole new customer into the electrified age. And yes, while car purchase prices are still on the high side, they are coming down — especially when you consider that rebate of up to $8625.

The most common electrified vehicle options are HEV, PHEV and BEV: that is, hybrid electrified vehicle (like a Toyota Prius or RAV4), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (like a like a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV) or battery electric vehicle (like a Tesla Model 3).

Which is best isn’t an obvious or easy answer, because each have their own attributes and drawbacks.

So it’s just as important to know what doesn’t suit your needs, as much as what does.

We brought together an example from each of the key Clean Car categories: Toyota’s C-HR Hybrid in rather impressive GR Sport guise, the popular Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV and the similarly popular MG ZS EV, representing the BEV class.

That’s three urban SUVs, all designed to represent their electrified genre more so than a car comparison, setting off for a series of challenges that offer a glimpse into ownership. Scan the QR code below to see the full video.
