OPINIONS: VOLVO STORIES

Peak Volvo coolness was surely the TWR 850 wagon in the mid-1990s British Touring Car Championship, with Jan Lammers and Rickard Rydell, and even Tony Scott in the Aussie 2.0 Super Tourer series. Yes, it was quick, but it was more about how cool it looked. Which it did.

I remember the 2015 XC90 being a watershed moment for the brand’s design and image. I also remember the international launch in Spain: 40-plus hours each way to get there and less than 24 hours on the ground. The driver assistance systems were really good.

My mum drives a Volvo V60, and she let us borrow it when our ancient Nissan Tiida was in the shop a few years ago. Coming from a 2004 Tiida, the Volvo was certainly an upgrade! Even though it’s not brand new and usually dirty from taking two big dogs to the beach, it oozes European finery.
