Gas station is really pumping

-

A chance to mix business and pleasure — living on the Coromandel coast, becoming part of a vibrant community and earning a six-figure income — has come to the market.

The Gull fuel station and Rockgas outlet at 208 Pollen St, Thames, is on the the main road into Thames and the entry to the Coromandel Peninsula, with easy access and exit for passing traffic and vehicles of all sizes.

It has an excellent customer count that continues to grow.

Gull & Rockgas Thames, a blue-chip opportunity in one of New Zealand’s rapidly growing locations, has a long, successful and stable trading history.

It has been run under its current ownership since 2004, with the vendors having enjoyed many successes over the past years with the site managed.

“Gull Thames is an exceptionally well-run business. This is not your average fuel station," says Greg Dunn, managing partner and business broker of ABC Business Sales in Hamilton and Rotorua.

"With Rockgas home deliveries, LPG filling on site, car wash, retail centre and fuel, it's a multi-pronged opportunity. It is also generating income from leased premises on site.

"And the snapper are biting — the Coromandel is a fantastic place to live and work,” Dunn says.

The site has had a very good level of reinvestment in the form of refurbishments and improvements in recent years.

These include relatively new underground double fibreglass fuel storage tanks, car wash, vacuum units and new petrol dispenser units.

Gull is committed to fuelling the mission of Kiwi motorists as a brand built by people for people.

Its statement — “Fuel your mission” — describes the energy and sentiment that Gull wants its customers and partners to feel.

Gull is independently credited with keeping the fuel market competitive and giving savings to motorists through what the Automobile Association NZ refers to as the “Gull effect”, where competitors' response has been to drop their prices to match Gull.

With top-line revenue averaging between $5 and $6 million over the past four years of trading, the Thames site's fuel, Rockgas and retail shop have all shown increases in litreage and sales in the 2022-23 financial year

The Rockgas franchise was added to the site in 2010.

There are bottle refills and swap-a-bottle on both fill stations at the site, supplied through Rockgas, with LPG forecourt swap-a-bottle sales of approximately $2000 weekly.

The automatic car wash is one of only two in the Coromandel. A new car wash machine, doors and systems were installed in 2019.

The asking price is a capital input of $2.3 million with stock of approximately $170,000 (subject to negotiations and stock value adjustments/ variations).
