TROPICAL PARADISE

Plenty of properties have a ‘wow’ factor, but not as many as this home on the Omaha waterfront, writes LEIGH BRAMWELL.

When agent Victoria Turner first saw the impressive Tuscaninspired house on the Omaha waterfront, she felt immediately connected to the beautiful aspect and privacy this unique property offers.

“It’s so private because it’s on the harbour side, not on the busy beach side, and you can walk your paddle board right into the water from the front lawn,” she says.

“The tropical planting gives it the atmosphere of a Fijian resort, it’s beautifully laid out with a great floor plan, and there are fantastic views from both levels of the home.”

Solidly built with concrete panel cladding, 181 Omaha Drive is a Bruce Shadwickdesign sitting at the end of a long driveway on the edge of the serene Whangateau Harbour.

On the ground floor a big, open-plan kitchen, dining area and sitting room enjoy abundant natural light and water views from the atriumstyle windows and bi-fold doors.

High timber ceilings and double-glazed joinery enhance the home, and the kitchen with its over-sized island bench is designed for entertaining.

The cosy sitting area is warmed by a sleek gas fire, and there’s an irresistible window seat made for snoozing in the sun.

A second living room also looks over the water and captures spectacular sunsets and views of the ranges beyond.

A bedroom/office, guest toilet, carpeted garage and laundry are also located on this level.

The upper floor is light and sun-filled, with beautiful views.

The large master suite features white shutters, an ensuite and a large walk-in robe, and opens to a private deck with superb views.

There’s a guest suite up here with direct access to the luxury bathroom with walk-in shower and bath, and a separate toilet.

Outside, there are private al fresco entertaining spaces and immaculate lawns inviting you down to the water’s edge.

A separate north-facing covered deck adds further outdoor living space at the rear of the house.

“This property has transitioned from a weekend retreat to a permanent home for the vendors and they have loved being able to accommodate friends and family here in space and privacy,” Turner says.

Alongside the access to the water which is perfect for paddle boards, kayaks and safe swimming, the house is also close to the boat ramp, Omaha's 18-hole golf course, cafes and the white sands of Omaha Beach.
