What’s at stake:

When the Black Caps’ clash with Afghanistan was rained out on Wednesday, their margin for error was also washed away. Kane Williamson’s side would have been counting on victory against the minnows of Group One — splitting the points means they can now afford few slips if they are to reach the semifinals. The demolition of Australia left them well placed but, with England looming and more poor weather always possible, New Zealand must take care of business against Sri Lanka tonight.

After being stunned by Namibia in their first qualifier, Sri Lanka recovered and progressed to the Super 12, where they eased past Ireland before being chased down by Australia. The Black Caps will move back to the top of the group with a win tonight and, providing they avoid an upset against Ireland, can make the England encounter less stressful.

If they lose, however, the picture could become considerably more complicated.
