Equal footing

-

When is the backlash against our increasing inequality, and all the stresses and problems it causes, going to start? Labour has made some progress by lifting those in the worst hardship out of poverty and the prison population has reduced. However our youth deaths from car crashes and suicides are the highest in the Western world, we are number one for bullying in schools and family violence and now we have ram raids by school children. Not a surprise, when we teach our children selfishness and greed are good, rather than weaknesses to overcome. We all share responsibility for the direction our country takes. For a healthier, connected New Zealand, we can “reprogramme” ourselves away from selfishness towards equality. Put an “equality” sign on your wall and look at it at least twice a day. New Zealand deserves it. We need a way forward. Allan Jackson, Arch Hill.
