Celebrating the Pacific in dance

-

For nearly 30 years Neil Ieremia has been showing his vision of contemporary dance to the world through the Black Grace Dance company, with celebrated performances in Europe, Australasia and the Americas.

Now, Ieremia is, once again, creating a new vision with The Art of Black Grace 1/5 — an immersive dance experience using state-ofthe-art technology for a world-first interactive performance.

Part-performance, partexhibition and part-archive, The Art of Black Grace floods the senses with sound and visuals projected onto 288 square metres of LED panels inside a purpose-built cylindrical structure.

The 360-degree stage is 15 metres across and 6 metres high and can accommodate 100 people.

“The Art of Black Grace speaks directly to our purpose, to create world-class experiences in Pacific Contemporary Dance;” said Ieremia, “and [to] our vision, to create transformational dance experiences of the highest calibre that represent our unique place in the Pacific.”

Situated in Auckland’s Karanga Plaza, Wynyard Quarter from tomorrow through to December 10, performances are every half hour, with evening performances on weekdays and all-day at weekends.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and blackgrace.co.nz
