Jobs, who died in 2011, wore the Birkenstoc­ks in the 1970s and 1980s and the cork and jute footbeds retain the imprint of his feet.

The world’s population has reached 8 billion, just 11 years after it passed 7 billion. The growth rate is slowing in nations like China and the US and rising in low- and lower-middle-income countries, most of which are in sub-Saharan Africa. When the next billion is added between 2022 and 2037, these poorer nations are expected to account for more than 90 per cent of global growth, the UN said.
