OPINIONS: PUKEKOHE PARK MEMORIES
Dean EVANS
Watching Kiwis dominate in V8 Supercars was always a highlight, as was driving a fully loaded 30-tonne truck for three laps, which was surprisingly easy. Just not as much fun as the recent blast in the Honda Civic Type R. Bumpy, was the word of the day.

Pukekohe was the go-to for big car launches and media events in the 1990s and 2000s. My first was “Holden Day” in 1994, a celebration of the Australian brand becoming more independent under General Motors (GMH). Lots of things have changed.

My favourite memories of the track still involve piling a bunch of mates into the car and camping next to the track during the V8 Supercars weekend. Except for the year I decided to sleep in the back of a Range Rover Sport and discovered the true meaning of discomfort.
