Scratch Bakers is a well-known and highly respected wholesale bakery and cafe located in a bustling quarter of Auckland’s CBD.

Nick Giles of Link Business Brokers, who is marketing the business, says: “I’m really excited to bring this special business to the market for the first time. It’s such a well-respected brand. I’ve known the owners for years and they’ve always done such a good job.”

Established in 2013, Scratch Bakers moved to its current site in Graham St in 2015. Housed in a beautiful brick building reminiscent of warehouses from days gone by, Scratch HQ is surrounded by gleaming new tower blocks home to some major blue-chip companies. The premises is spacious and stunning.

“Scratch HQ is where the bakery and main cafe is located,” Giles says, “but there is also a gorgeous separate satellite espresso bar situated in the TVNZ building on Victoria St West.”

At the forefront of the brand's identity is authenticity. All food is handmade on-site “from scratch” by a team of experienced staff. Only the freshest and highest quality ingredients are used during production.

This is a multi-income stream business with strong sales from the wholesale business, the main cafe, daily catering and the espresso bar at TVNZ.

Combined sales are around $40,000 weekly. Giles says, “The business operates just five days a week and the cafe enjoys impressive weekly sales of around $20,000.”

Scratch Bakers provides wholesale baked goods to several of Auckland’s best-known cafes. Catering customers include big corporate names, and the business enjoys catering orders of around $6000 weekly .

Giles says of the Graham St set-up: “The business was really designed around the wholesale baking operation so you can imagine that the kitchen / baking area is first-class.”

The large kitchen is visible through huge glass walls from the cafe, boasting quality baking and cooking equipment, huge prep areas and large walk-in cool rooms and freezers.

The cafe is a relaxed place with an airy feel and wideopening windows and doors. The inside has an industrial feel and the minimalist fit-out reflects this.

A huge front counter and cabinet displaying baked goods runs the length of the kitchen. There is seating outside, which is a real bonus in the city.

The business comes with two private parking spaces behind remote security bollards.

There is a strong lease in place and the rent is reasonable for such an impressive space.

Giles says, “This is a really well-established business that has ridden out the challenges of Covid well. The business is back up to full speed and, in fact, turnover continues to rise above pre-Covid levels.”

There is real growth opportunity. “The owners decided to focus the wholesale operation within a very small part of Auckland and often turn down potential new customers. The market is huge for quality baked products and a dynamic new owner can easily realise this potential.”

This is a highly efficient business with strong systems and staff in place. The owners are willing to give strong support to a new owner to ensure a smooth transition.

The business is available for $750,000 plus stock.
