Setback for Khan
Imran Khan, Pakistan’s former prime minister, has had his hopes of an early general election dashed after his political foe was appointed the country’s new army chief. General Asim Munir, whom Khan previously sacked from his role as head of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, will replace General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the end of the month. In 2019, General Munir allegedly tried to prosecute Khan’s wife for corruption while he was head of ISI. Khan replaced him after eight months, the shortest term of any intelligence chief in Pakistan’s history.
