Whenuapai site’s ready for take-off
A “supremely located” large greenfield site tagged for light industry has gone up for sale in Auckland’s burgeoning northwest.
The 3.5ha site on Trig Rd, Whenuapai, overlooks the NorthWest Shopping Centre, Costco’s new store and fuel station and the Westgate business precinct. It is close to current and future motorway access for state highways 16 and 18.
Currently zoned Future Urban, the site is earmarked by Auckland Council for rezoning for light industry with an indicative timing of 2028-2032.
Whenuapai has been identified by council planners as a key hub to support the city’s growth challenges. In recent years, the council has bought land along its northwestern boundary designated for stormwater management.
The freehold site at 78 Trig Rd is being marketed by Wesley Gerber, Matt Clifford and Beterly Pan of Bayleys Northwest. On the market for the first time in 50 years, the property will be sold by tender closing on Wednesday March 8, unless sold earlier.
Gerber said future designation as part of the Business–Light Industry zone under Auckland’s unitary plan would open the way for a variety of activities such as manufacturing, production, logistics, storage, transport and distribution.
In the interim, two homes on the site could provide income while a new owner worked through future plans.
A planned flyover around 100m away would connect the site with the bustling big-box precinct directly across SH16.
“Supremely located near the junction of the Northwestern and Upper Harbour motorways, the site offers exceptional connectivity to the area’s flourishing amenities, to the Northwest, Westgate and Hobsonville metropolitan centres, and across the Auckland region,” Gerber said.
Pan said Northside Drive East and Trig Rd were planned to be redeveloped from predominantly rural roads to main arterial roads supporting the planned industrialzoned land and further improving connections to state highways.
“The overpass will see Northside Drive East running along the site’s 170m front boundary connecting Northside Drive at Westgate directly through to State Highway 18. This has been modelled to accommodate more than 26,000 vehicle movements a day.”
