“After a major alteration to an already modern home, it provides space with luxury and the ultimate lifestyle on your doorstep.”

You would not think that a home recently completed in 2018 would need any improvement, but when Mel and Gemma acquired 13 Waitemata Drive, they were resolute on making it their enduring final home, one with space that took advantage of the property’s extraordinary outlook over the canals of One Tree Point.

And so, with their knack for design and some serious expertise in the family, they achieved that splendid home, and more.

“With its long view down the canal facing the right way for all-day sun and its position over the water – it’s exactly what we wanted,” says Mel.

The renovation – completed just four months ago – took the building from a single level to two stories, introducing more living space, a coffee bar and an inspiring master bedroom fronted by a sun soaked deck.

The work was undertaken by their son Warren and grandson Jake who created a seamless and skilled merger of the two levels.

“The design and size of the home could accommodate two families if you wanted,” Gemma rightly points out.

The upstairs space and master bedroom is a residence in itself. Dwarfing even the most generous bedrooms, the room – with high ceilings and exposed beams – incorporates an equally roomy ensuite and private deck.

Paired with the living area and coffee bar alongside, the floor is an entirely self-sufficient retreat.

“This would have to be my favourite spot, it’s a beautiful place. From the upper deck you’re in your own world but can see everything that’s going on. At night the lights from the boats in the marina are just magnificent,” describes Mel.

It’s evident that the property has been designed with people, family and a large lifestyle firmly front of mind, and it’s reflected in every aspect of Mel and Gemma’s home.

The finished product has everything thought of to lead an extraordinary lifestyle – a theatre room, pool, home gym, entertaining spaces and a gin cellar for starters.

The home’s centrepiece kitchen is equipped with premium appliances, a scullery and immediate views of the water. And when they have wanted to venture on that water, their boat is docked within metres. Certainly, the property has provided the pair every opportunity for a life less ordinary.

The couple are now set to fulfil a lifelong dream of owning a vineyard, bringing this remarkable residence to the market. To be sold by private treaty, the home is being marketed by Sue Maich and Damien Davis of Bayleys.

Maich emphasises, “This is one of the more prestigious properties on the Marsden Cove canals. After a major alteration to an already modern home, it provides space with luxury and the ultimate lifestyle on your doorstep. It is unsurpassed in the present market.”
