Ki Ma- ha – A Stunning Waiheke Hospitality Gem

-

Ki Ma- ha is a stunning hospitality venue set right on Onetangi Beach on the beautiful Island of Waiheke. For the very first time, Nick Giles of LINK Business Broking brings this gem of a hospitality business to market.

Giles says: “I’m really excited about this listing. Ki Ma- ha is a fabulous place. This is an opportunity for someone to own a true slice of paradise”. Waiheke is a haven of beautiful vineyards, olive groves and beaches, and is recognised as one of the most beautiful island destinations in the world. All this just a 40-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. It is a simply wonderful place to be. The owner of Ki Ma- ha acquired the business that was formally on this Fourth Avenue site and set about creating his masterpiece. Absolutely no expense was spared in the planning, design, and execution of the David Ponting of Ponting Fitzgerald redesign and the fit-out. Ki Ma- ha opened in 2020 to critical acclaim.

The restaurant itself has a soaring pitched roof and beautifully crafted furniture and design details. The whole restaurant is positioned to look out over the wide sun-drenched deck out over beautiful Onetangi Beach and into the gorgeous blue sea beyond. Giles says of the place “Some say that Ki Ma- ha has a bit of a Balinese feel. I think that stems from that magical feeling you get sitting there. It just feels like you are in paradise and on holiday!” There is a busy shop off to one side of the building (around the corner from the main front deck). This is an upmarket little seaside store that stocks ice cream and drinks and serves coffee, pastries and fish and chips along all sorts of things that someone might need for a day relaxing on the beach. The store can hit $30k in sales a week during busy times!

Nick says of the business “The business has really started to hit its stride having weathered the covid storm. This is the first true summer the business has enjoyed with tourists back. Sales have grown steadily through the year, and despite restricted opening days / hours, the business will achieve sales of well over $3m for the financial year. Giles says “The business has just experienced a bumper December and January is looking fantastic!”. There is solid team of staff in place and the business is fully managed, operationally. There are two key Restaurant Managers who look after all things front of House and an Executive Sous Chef that looks after everything to do with the kitchen. They, in turn, have senior staff that report to them. Giles say “The owner has set the business up to run under management and so, the new buyer needn’t necessarily have lots of hospitality experience. They must have a passion for this place, of course, and continue to set the benchmark for quality”. Ki Ma- ha has featured in many magazines and the reviews of the restaurant are stellar.

The opportunity to own Ki Ma- ha is certainly tantalising. The business continues to grow and there is very real growth potential here. The business has yet to operate at full capacity, but it is all set to get there. An astute new owner will realise this potential over the coming seasons and realise some exceptional profits.
