Large Tekapo estate rated ideal for tourism project
A prime block of elevated land in Tekapo with stunning lake views could be bought as one large parcel or as three separate sites.
The vacant development site is at 85 D’Archiac Drive, a prime location with extensive road frontage and views.
Marketed by Michael Lough and Marius Ogg of Colliers Christchurch, the 1.9120ha landholding is for sale by deadline treaty closing March 21.
Given its position and Low Density Residential zoning within the district’s Commercial Visitor Accommodation Precinct, Lough describes it as one of the best tourism-based sites remaining in Tekapo. Its zoning allows for hotel use subject to appropriate consents.
“The site is sizeable enough to accommodate a substantial on-site proposal or, in turn, there is the opportunity to purchase in smaller parcels ranging from 3175sq m to 8235sq m. Once this site is developed, that potential is lost,” Ogg says.
“This is an opportunity for an astute developer or land banker to secure this prime tourism site which has never previously been offered on the open market.
“Tekapo is bustling. The tourists are back and it’s been an extremely busy summer for accommodation providers who are currently seeing unprecedented nightly rates and occupancy.”
The site has extensive frontage to Tekapo-Twizel Road, the main thoroughfare for Tekapo township, particularly travelling west to the Central Otago lakes. It has rear access via D’Archiac Drive to the southeast.
It is an easy walk to the southwest of the Tekapo commercial precinct where there are several dining, retail and hospitality offerings. It sits alongside The nine-hole Cairns Golf Course and Alpine Resort which the Simpson family still own and operate.
Lake Tekapo is in the heart of the Mackenzie Country, a three-hour drive from Christchurch Airport and only a short distance from Aoraki Mt Cook. Attractions include stargazing, horse trekking, fishing, hiking, biking, skiing, hot pools and outdoor ice skating.
