Tourists shown the best of north west

- KIM ACE

Van loads of tourists will be shuttled north west this summer.

Visitors will be able to tailor their day’s activities according to their tastes with adventure, art, cafes, thermal pools and wineries all in the mix.

The initiative is the brainchild of the North West District Business Association (NWDBA).

Manager Gary Holmes says they realised a while ago that though there are a plethora of great things to do in the district the transport options for visitors were very limited.

The association together with the Rodney Local Board and owners of Woodhill Forest, Nga Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara, decided to trial an access project in the form of a minivan to act as a tour bus, shuttling travellers to businesses and attractions.

They will pick up tourists and bring them out to the north west.

NWDBA committee member and owner of The Riverhead tavern, Paula Pepperall, says the idea has great potential and could provide alternative to a day out on Waiheke Island.

‘‘We have beauty, adventure, adrenaline, historic and cultural stops all within the midst of the amazing restaurants, cafes and wineries in the area. People travelling to New Zealand who don’t have their own transport will be able to experience the natural beauty of our wild beaches and gannet colonies.’’

The association plan to design a photo wrap to cover the minivan which they say will act like a moving billboard when driving around the city.

Woodhill Forest will be a main feature with quad biking, four wheel driving, mountain biking, motorcross, horse riding, paintball and time at Muriwai Beach all on offer.
