A mum who started made a business when trying to find a convenient way to give her daughter homemade food onthe-go has won an award. Kylie Matthews, a Te Atatu Peninsula resident, has been announced the winner of the small business category in The David Awards for her business Kai Carrier. The awards recognises home and small businesses in New Zealand. Kai Carrier, is a range of reusable food pouches for homemade puree, soups and yoghurts.

RETIREMENT CELEBRATIO­N

The public are invited to celebrate Sister Frances Lister’s retirement from St Paul’s Kindergart­en. A thanksgivi­ng mass will be held at St Paul’s School hall on October 29 at

11am. This will be followed by a shared lunch where everyone attending is asked to bring a plate of food to contribute to the meal.

FREE DOCTORS VISITS

More families are getting the care they need for their children as result of free GP visits for under 13s. New data shows children have visited their enrolled general practition­er 16.6 per cent more compared to the same period from the previous year. The policy started 12 months ago. More Maori and Pacific children are also being seen by their doctors. The number of prescripti­ons dispensed increased by 23.9 per cent showing the removal of cost has improved access to medicines.
