DALE THE SPIDER

-

There are more things to worry about in Avondale than Dale the spider that has been an icon for a very long time.

There are still issues of tagging and beggars at the Avondale shops.

As well as illegal dumping at the former 3 Guy’s site probably from the people that live in the area.

Another icon is the Avondale racecourse that has been vandalised and broken into so many times.

It is probably one reason that they had gone bust? Then the slippery bricks.

Want a Maori theme - cool put it in the former 3 Guy’s site do something with it please but keep the spider.

Avondale

I would not like to see the spider taken down.

Avondale is not all about spiders though. It would be marvellous to see more sculptures around the town.

Sadly our beautiful Pacific Island lady sculpture on the corner of Rosebank Rd and Great North Rd was vandalised and eventually broken.

We have a burgeoning group of artists residing in the area, perhaps other pieces can be commissioned.

The Whau Board need to stop squabbling and work together for the good of Avondale! Push the Auckland Council for better bylaws on begging.

I don’t want to be asked for money every time I go into a local shop. The beggars are intimidating to children and elderly Avondale residents. I counted five people begging for money on a short stretch of Great North Rd.

Come on Whau board put some bigger items on your agenda and make your voice be heard, like working together to pitch hard to the council to provide more facilities for the families in the area.

Even to buy the RSA site and build a pool or recreation centre. If the town is shabby people will treat it shabbily.

LOUISE MATHESON Avondale

So now the newly re-elected powers that be want to tear down another piece of our modern history, that is the spider in Avondale, they say its time has passed, they want to replace it with - let me guess - something Maori.

Doesn’t the history and feel good factor of the population who helped build Avondale count for nothing in the mad rush to spend money unnecessarily and to try to justify oneself?

I have brought up three children in this general area and they have the spider as part of their childhood.

Dale is going to stay.

If the Whau Local Board are so desperate to do something, try sorting out the mess you have made of the traffic flow through New Lynn.

I noticed how you boasted in your recent propaganda issued for the recent local elections what a wonderful job you made of the revamp.

It’s a shambles another bad accident last weekend, one of several I have witnessed.

How many lives and injuries have been caused cutting traffic from two lanes to one?

Taking out the recessed parking and putting more inflows into the traffic stream?

All this to produce more sidewalk space for seats nobody uses, and gardens that take up parking space and need ongoing maintenance.
