Locations for 210 social housing units

Locations for 210 new social housing units have been finalised for west Auckland and most of the addresses are in Avondale, New Lynn and Blockhouse Bay.

Housing New Zealand (HNZ) confirmed the new homes will be built as part of the Auckland Housing Programme (AHP) over the next three years.

They will replace 60 homes in the three suburbs with 164 new social housing units.

In Avondale, 108 new homes will replace 47 existing houses.

On Racecourse Pde an existing 42 houses will be replaced by 70 new social housing units.

Two freestandi­ng houses on Canal Rd will make way for six units – four will be two-bedroom and two will be four-bedroom homes. There will be 32 onebedroom apartments replacing three houses located on a 1626 square metre site on New North Rd and Bollard Ave.

Nine homes in New Lynn will be replaced by 37 new social housing units.

On Great North Rd four old houses on a 1571sqm site have already been replaced by eight two-bedroom houses.

On Hill Cres three homes on a 2984sqm site will be replaced by 14 new houses. Seven of these will be two-bedroom homes, two will be four-bedroom family homes and one will be a three-bedroom home.

Designs for the remaining four houses were not yet finalised.

Two houses on a 1151sqm site on Rata St will be replaced by 15 one-bedroom units.

In Blockhouse Bay four homes on Hertford St and Holbrook St will be replaced by 29 new social housing units.

Four houses on a 4490sqm site will be replaced by 29 new homes made up of one three-bedroom home, four duplex two-bedroom homes and 24 two-bedroom apartments.

HNZ also confirmed locations for 24 new homes in Henderson on Coburg St and River Park Cres. This meant the number of social housing units in the suburb would increase from eight to 24.

On Coburg St, six homes on a 4817sqm site would be replaced by 10 two-bedroom, four threebedro­om, one four-bedroom, one five bedroom and one sixbedroom homes.

Two houses on a 1396sqm site on River Park Cres will be replaced by one four-bedroom and six two-bedroom homes.

In Massey, five homes will replaced by 12 new social housing units on Cedar Hts.
