TE ATATU¯ SHOOTING
Police searched a house in the Auckland suburb of Te Atatu¯ South as part of an investigation into a shooting in the area. One person was arrested at the address on September 16, but not in relation to the shooting. Officers were searching the house as part of an investigation into the reports of shots fired at a car on Springbank Lane on September 15. At the time, the reports of gunshots sent nearby Rutherford Primary School into lockdown.
MOTORWAY CAR FIRE
An Auckland family were left ‘‘traumatised’’ after their car burst into flames on the Northwestern Motorway. Stuart and Renee Hartley were travelling in their Ford Kuga on September 13 when its engine died and the car coasted to a stop. Seconds later, with three-year-old Joshua and mum Renee in the back seat together, the SUV filled with smoke and caught alight, Stuart Hartley said. The 2013 car was part of a global recall. Ford has asked to access the car for investigative purposes.
PIHA SLS SUCCESS
Piha is celebrating success at the Surf Life Saving Northern Region Pool Championships. The team reclaimed the Cosgrove Trophy on September 2-3, under their coach Steven Ferguson, a former Olympian. Under-19 lifeguard Oscar Williams broke three New Zealand records and gained eight first placings. Leti Ata broke four national records and gained five first placings. The club’s relay teams gained five national records and 19 race wins. The sports’ National Pool Championships was to be held in Rosedale on October 13-15.
TOOL ENGRAVING
Police are offering free tool engraving sessions over the next two months. Scheduled sessions were to be held at: Placemakers Westgate and Mitre 10 Mega Henderson, both September 22 from 7am-10am; Placemakers New Lynn, September 29 from 7am-10am and Mitre 10 Mega Northwest, October 12 from 7am10am. Breakfast would be available at each. Police said theft of tools at construction sites or from trade vehicles was a common problem.
