FROM THE EDITOR
It’s heartbreaking to read about the two teenagers who died in the Waita¯ kere Ranges.
School friends Mitch Woolley and Sosi Turagaiviu were swept away after trying to cross a swollen river over the weekend.
The friends were just 17-yearsold.
Sosi was from Massey and Mitch was from Waita¯ kere.
The parents of Mitch say he was taken ‘‘at a time when the world was just opening up to him’’.
A tragedy like this shakes our community and our schools.
I am sure these teens would have touched many lives through their love of sport.
Their death reminds me that although the Waita¯ kere Ranges is an incredible playground to explore, it can also be extremely unforgiving.
Our west coast beaches unfortunately take too many lives.
And now flash flooding causes the death of two teenagers.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Mitch and Sosi. Marika Hill
