WATER PLANT PLANS

-

Plans for a new water filter station in Titirangi are moving forward. Watercare has announced two drop-in days to show the public concept drawings, ask questions and present feedback. Ecological reports on the site have been done, operations manager Priyan Perera said. Matters also up for feedback included the future of the existing Watercare buildings in Waima, construction times and the impact on traffic. Watercare planned to lodge for resource consent mid-year, and aimed to start construction of the plant in 2021 and commission it in 2023. The drop-in sessions would be at Lopdell House, Titirangi, on March 1 and March 5, 4pm-7pm.

LOCAL BOARD MEETING

The first Henderson-Massey Local Board meeting for the year will be held on February 20 at the council chambers at 5pm. The Waita¯kere Ranges Local Board will hold its second meeting on February 22. Both meetings will be streamed live on the Western Leader Facebook page.

FAECES IN WESTWAVE

The six faecal-related incidents which forced Westwave pools to close this summer all occurred in January. Auckland Council said the incidents on January 4, 10, 15, 25, 28 and 30 caused closures of the pools for more than three hours. The most recent incident forced the toddler pool to close for four-and-a-half hours because of faecal matter and vomit in the water.

COUNCIL CRACKDOWN

Auckland Council is cracking down on residents who refuse to cooperate with its demands. On February 8, its regulatory committee agreed to impose an hourly charge of $159 on offenders who failed to comply with its compliance team. Auckland Council regulatory services respond to 120,000 compliance requests each year and demand is increasing.
