Tattletale Saints back from US
Tattletale Saints will be back at Sarjeant Gallery on Friday, December 7, performing this time in their original form, as an acoustic duo.
Auckland-born, Nashvillebased Tattletale Saints will perform 14 intimate acoustic duo concerts around the country to support the release of two new singles.
This tour marks a return to the acoustic duo sound that first introduced the Saints’ music to New Zealand audiences in 2012, earning them the Tui for Folk Album of The Year in 2014.
Cy Winstanley (guitar/vocals and APRA Silver Scroll nominee) and Vanessa McGowan (bass/vocals) have been based Stateside for the past five years, working alongside Nashville’s best. Their time in Music City USA has brought a new depth of artistry and polish to their performances and songwriting.
Nashville’s thriving music scene has afforded Cy and Vanessa the opportunity to work outside their own band, and they have each spent the last 18 months touring heavily. Cy has spent time on the road with Aubrie Sellers and Ashley Campbell, touring through the US and UK/Europe, opening for Miranda Lambert and performing at Bonnaroo, Folk Alliance, Americanafest and The Grand Ole Opry. Vanessa performed throughout the US, Canada and the UK with multi Grammy nominee Brandy Clark, also opening for Miranda Lambert and performing on the Opry stage. With Brandy she also opened for Dwight Yoakam, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Willie Nelson, who she was privileged to join on stage in a group vocal. In August Vanessa joined Grammy winning band Sugarland on their US tour, finishing up with them in time to re-join forces with Winstanley and prepare for their homecoming tour.
Whanganui audiences were introduced to the duo when they toured as Her Make Believe Band, and they have spent time in Whanganui, visiting Vanessa’s father, John McGowan, also a musician. Their following here is strong, and many people will be looking forward to their return. Vanessa has been back recently, performing with The Danberrys at the Musicians’ Club.
When Tattletale Saints play here next month, audiences can look forward to a mix of old and new songs, along with the band’s takes on classic country, pop and American songbook hits.
