National Armistice commemoration

-

Representing Whanganui District Council, Cr Hadleigh Reid attended the Armistice Centenary National Ceremony at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park in Wellington on Sunday, 11 November.

“I felt it a great privilege to attend the Armistice commemoration in Wellington,” Cr Reid said.

“It was a ceremony marked with sombre reflection on the horrors of the First World War, a celebration of the Armistice, and the remembrance of those who gave their lives to bring us peace and hope.

“While the signing of the Armistice and the end of the war was cause for great celebration, it was made very clear at the ceremony that on reflection it was also a time of deep sadness.

“So it was with a heavy heart and enormous gratitude that I remembered their sacrifice for all of us, because the least we can do is to never forget,” he said.
