Economic Development Strategy plan goes public
Whanganui District Council will be at the Whanganui River Markets on TaupŌ Quay this Saturday, 16 February from 9.00am-1.00pm to hand out copies of its draft Economic Development Strategy, ask for feedback and explain the submission process.
The Council will also be at the Whanganui UCOL Market Day in the main campus atrium in Rutland Street on Wednesday, 20 February from 11.00am-1.00pm to welcome students and encourage their contribution to the district’s economic development aspirations.
The draft Economic Development Strategy sets a 10year vision for Whanganui to be vibrant, prosperous and rich with opportunities based on retaining, growing and attracting business.
Five priorities are identified in the strategy as drivers for the district’s development potential through to 2028 and beyond. These include a transport and freight gateway, training and development, agricultural development, food and innovation, and tourism focusing on Whanganui River. The Council’s Policy and Governance Manager, Stephanie Macdonald-Rose, says the proposed strategy builds on past planning initiatives and features a refined purpose of what the Council and its economic development agency, Whanganui & Partners, can achieve.
Public consultation closes at 5.00pm on Friday, 1 March 2019. For submission information please visit: www.whanganui.govt.nz/haveyoursay
