New markings lead the way on city's shared pathways

-

Infrastructure for active travellers continues to grow with the addition of signs on the St Hill Street shared pathway. Whanganui District Council Senior Roading Engineer, Brent Holmes, says Whanganui’s network of shared pathways – footpaths designated for shared use by people cycling, scootering, skating or walking – is progressing well. “People may have noticed green rectangles with bike symbols and arrows appearing on busy vehicle crossings on the St Hill Street shared pathway recently.

“The markings are there to warn drivers of cyclists approaching, and cyclists of a busy crossing. Symbols and arrows advising people to keep left have also been applied along pathways from Dublin Street to Taupō Quay.” The St Hill Street shared pathway is almost complete and work is also underway on the link from Dublin Street through to London Street, along the rail corridor.
