Elevator fundraiser big success
The Whanganui Regional Heritage Trust organised a sixcourse degustation dinner at the Red Lion on Saturday, August 31. The dinner was a fundraiser for a new entranceway to the elevator on Anzac Pde, which will replace the existing one built in 1976. It was organised by a subcommittee of the trust headed by Bruce Falk and assisted by MaryAnn Ewing, Denis McGowan and Ann McNamara.
Attended by more than 60 people the evening was a great success. Guests were greeted with a complimentary glass of bubbly, courtesy of the Red Lion Inn and the general consensus was the food prepared for each of the six courses was delicious. The flavours were superb and the presentation excellent.
At intervals during the evening, guests bid for items in a Mystery Auction. The MC, who introduced the auction, was Denis McGowan, a trust board member, who entertained everyone with his humour and enthusiasm for each auction lot. He outlined the prizes that could be won at the start of the auction and guests did not need too much encouragement to bid as each auction lot came up.
The auctioneer, David Cotton, excelled at his job to raise as much money as possible for each auction lot. Guests were generous with their bids, especially a Durie Hill resident and his table of friends, and we are very grateful for their generosity and the generosity of the other successful bidders. There was considerable humour and many happy faces when the mystery lots were revealed at the end of the evening.
A truly great evening at The Red Lion raised more than $3500.
The Whanganui Regional Heritage Trust thanks the following for their generous support in donating prizes:
