Friendship link with long-gone classic
They travelled from Wellington to Whanganui in convoy — a group with diverse interests but the common passion to travel the world, but not as a “tourist”, and to homehost those with a similar passion from overseas Friendship Force Clubs.
This inward exchange between members of the Wellington FF and Wanganui FF, once again, had those magic moments that happen on all our exchanges, whether internal or abroad.
As our two groups were lunching at the Mint Cafe we enjoyed the spectacle of the massed vintage and classic vehicles on the forecourt of the War Memorial Hall on Daffodil Day. Graham Wigley, from Wellington, recognised their old 1962 Morris 1000 among the massed cars. His wife, Jenny, had driven it for 14 years and then it was used under strictly negotiated conditions by their two children during eight years of university life.
It had been sold to people in Whanganui 12 years ago . . . but
. . . Graham and Jenny still had the original ownership papers. They will now be sending them to the Whanganui owners.
Mike and I also had a “magic moment” with our visiting couple, Tony and Lynnda. They
were keen for us to watch the International Space Station tracking across our night sky. We stood in our front yard and watched it move at pace overhead. It was awe-inspiring to realise there were humans inside it.
Tony showed me how to download the free app so we can always track when it will be visible to us in its 60-hour rotation around the earth.. This app also allows us to see which astronauts are on board.
A magic moment indeed . . . and then back inside to play cards until well past our bedtime.
