Chonel Hairdressing
Hair & Barber New Zealand (H&BNZ)
is proud to launch Quality + Care®, the hair industry’s own accreditation programme that identifies hair salons and barbershops that are exemplifying industry best practice.
H&BNZ is making it easier for the public to select a hair salon or barbershop that is meeting professional standards, and giving the public the confidence that their chosen business operates legitimately, supports employing qualified staff and uses and supplies professional products.
The government currently does not regulate or set requirements around how a professional hair salon or barbershop is run, with no indication of when or if this will ever happen.
H&BNZ has listened to both industry and consumers, and created this accreditation programme so that H&BNZ, as an industry body and community, can start to moderate and set a professional standard, giving confidence to consumers and supporting those in our industry striving for excellence.
Industry Attraction and Retention Statement New Zealand’s
hair industry is finding it hard to attract and retain workers. This is often because our workers are undertrained, underpaid and underappreciated. H&BNZ is committed to raising industry standards through benchmarking, training, and support, and believes that through our Quality + Care® accreditation our industry can Learn Better, Earn Better and Live Better.
What is Quality + Care®?
Quality + Care® is H&BNZ’s new industry accreditation programme. It identifies hair salons and barbershops that are following hair industry best practice and employ qualified staff. FACT: Approximately 40% of New Zealand’s hairdressers and barbers are NOT qualified.
How Does Quality + Care® Benefit You?
Whether you are a client of the hair salon or barbershop that is Quality + Care® accredited, doing business with them, or applying for a job with them, you can be assured that the business is taking their obligations as an employer, safety of their clients and professionalism of the hair industry, very seriously.
Why Should a Hair Salon or Barbershop run a Legitimate Business?
Running a legitimate business indicates to the public that a business owner is contributing to the growth of the economy by paying staff fairly, meets legal requirements and all tax obligations.
Why Use a Qualified Hair stylist/Barber?
By attaining an NZQA accredited qualification in hairdressing or barbering means the stylist/barber has met the minimum standard required to perform all professional services on a client safely without supervision. There is no legal requirement to hold a qualification to operate as a hairdresser or barber in New Zealand. Only about 60% of the New Zealand hair industry is qualified or in training to be qualified.
