Let us talk Curtain’s

-

We have been doing a lot of work with window treatments lately for our clients and it is always such a pleasure working with gorgeous fabrics. There are a few things to consider when thinking about your window treatments such as A) How high to hang them B) Length of your curtain C) Set back distance D) Heading style E) lining choice F) Fabric choice G) Overall Feel

If you are building new, then please keep in mind the window treatments at plan stage. We often get plans come across our desks and the architects have put in beautiful windows, but no thought has gone into how those windows will be dressed. An angled window looks great in the right setting but can be a nightmare to dress. How High to hang them When looking at installing curtains we always take them higher than the window frame by a minimum of 250, we will go to the ceiling if it is not an overly high stud height, and we always take them to the ground which is the length of your curtain. Consider if you want your curtains to sit just above the flooring or if you wish them to puddle Set back distance if it is possible, we always do a clearance of a minimum of five hundred on either side of the window. If space allows, we will go back as far as one metre depending on the fabric, if it is a double tracked system and if the space on either side of the window is clear etc. If it is a large stacker door and there is only wall on either side, then we take the curtains all the way to the corners. This allows for clearance from the open door, so the curtains do not get sucked out the door, but it still allows for an attractive finish to the space. Heading Style This can make or break the overall look of your space so have a good chat to your designer or curtain maker about the options available. Lining Choices We have a favourite lining we use here in the studio for our client’s, and it has a beautiful soft handle while giving block out and thermal properties. There is nothing worse than seeing a beautiful fabric being backed by a cheap lining so please choose wisely. Fabric choices This is the area where you need to have a good talk with your designer as we have the knowledge of the overall look and feel of a space and will show you options that will tick all the boxes for your specific space. Remember that curtains are used every day so the initial outlay may seem costly but over the lifetime of those curtains the daily cost is minimal. Overall Feel it is important to know what the overall feel of the space is you are wanting to achieve as this will allow your designer to show you samples of fabrics to achieve that look and feel. If you are needing help with window treatments, then contact us as we have lots of knowledge and a wonderful selection of fabrics in our studio that cover all requirements. Have a great month everyone.
