Time for Change

- Rachel Gray

As we race towards the end of the year it is a good time to think about what can be achieved this side of Christmas to freshen up one’s homes. The reality is most of the trades will be fully booked for the year now and I know we have work starting that has been locked in for quite some time. So don’t be thinking now is a good time to start tearing down walls, as you may be stuck with framing to look at, over your Christmas meal.

Living spaces If you yourself enjoy painting, then now is a good time to give your walls a fresh coat of paint or put up a new wallpaper before your Christmas guests arrive. Paint is drying quicker with the warmer weather, and you can open up the house to keep any toxic smells at bay. Change the furniture around and purchase some new cushions to give your sofa’s a quick and cost effective re vamp. Add in some more house plants and again move them around as the light is changing and not all your plants will enjoy the stronger summer sun. Give your artwork a freshen up by changing the frames or the positioning in the house and as I have said in previous articles, don’t be afraid to try grouping artwork. Kitchen In your kitchen you could change the kitchen handles for a quick and cost effective re fresh. Change your accessories and add in a fresh summer colour palette or if you are a Christmas lover bring out your Christmas décor and get festive. Don’t be afraid to change your pendant lights as changing these is a great way to change the feel of a space and you will be able to find someone to hang these for you easily.

Bathrooms Again a new light above the mirror can make a world of difference in your bathroom along with new towels. Be bold and have some fun with pattern and colours and if you feel like pushing the boat out have some fun by putting up a vinyl wallpaper, try wallpaper on the ceiling if you have a smaller space. We only ever use Vinyl wallpapers in bathrooms as they can be wiped down and will withstand a certain amount of moisture which normal wallpapers wont. Bedrooms When was the last time you changed your duvet cover? Now is a great time to get a new duvet cover and add in some cushions to give your bed a freshen up. Try a new colour palette or a bold pattern and have some fun. If you are more comfortable with one colour only on your bed, then add texture and layers to your scheme. An all-white bed can look stunning if done well with texture and layers.

If you need help at all giving your spaces a small refresh this side of Christmas, then give us a call and we will sprinkle our magic with you.

Have a great month everyone.
