Whanganui Midweek

WHANGANUI HAPPENINGS

- Continued on A14

Initium ceramic exhibition will be coming to the Community Arts Centre soon. Kim Rees, Aleisha Davy and Amy Langford are the three members of local Whanganui Potters Studio.

“Kim and Aleisha (mother and daughter) are Whanganui locals and I met them at the potter's studio when I moved to Whanganui two years ago,” said Davy.

“We all find that ceramic work is therapeutic and important to our wellbeing. After collaborating on several markets together and in the Pottery Place on Guyton Street, we realised that we were all working on art projects and decided to support each other by holding our first independent exhibitions as a team,” she said.

Initium is Latin for beginning and seemed fitting, as this is the beginning of the trio’s artistic journeys together.

Kim says that she loves creating things, no matter what the media and would describe her art as quirky and fun. Aleisha's pottery pieces are heavily inspired by the ocean and Amy creates hand built pieces, incorporating texture and experimenting with glazes. Open daily 10am-4pm, January 27 to February 3, Community Arts Centre, 19 Taupo Quay, Whanganui.
