Whanganui Athletic Football Club fundraiser gets big turnout on sunny day

The Whanganui Athletic Football Club’s golf day proved to be a smashing success on Friday, March 1. It was a highly anticipate­d golf day at the picturesqu­e Castleclif­f Golf Course and it did not disappoint.

With perfect weather gracing the occasion, a total of 17 teams gathered, club members, supporters, local businesses, sponsors and avid golfers. The event proved to be a resounding success, not only in terms of camaraderi­e and sportsmans­hip but also in fundraisin­g efforts for the club.

Despite the many golf day events saturating the calendar, the turnout for the Whanganui Athletic Football Club’s event was remarkable, showcasing the strong support and dedication of the community towards their beloved club.

The 18-hole Ambrose competitio­n was fiercely contested, with teams battling it out for top honours. In the end, it was Team Cooper and Co. who emerged victorious, displaying exceptiona­l skill and teamwork throughout the tournament.

Close on their heels were Chunny’s Chompers, securing a commendabl­e second place, followed closely by Mickey’s, who clinched third spot.

Individual achievemen­ts were also celebrated, with First Team central midfielder Jordan Joblin-Hall showcasing his prowess by claiming the title of Longest Drive.

Meanwhile, a late entry, Brendan Haughian, showcased precision and finesse, securing the coveted title of Closest to the Pin on the fourth hole.

The excitement didn’t end there, as the event concluded with a thrilling auction, offering attendees the chance to bid on signed memorabili­a and exclusive golf trips. Among the highlights was the auction of a round at the prestigiou­s Cape Kidnappers Golf Course, which fetched a remarkable sum.

Notably, it was an ex-Athletic player/coach who sealed the deal, adding a touch of nostalgia to the proceeding­s. Overall, the Whanganui Athletic Football Club’s golf day proved to be a memorable and rewarding experience for all involved.

Not only did it provide an opportunit­y for the community to come together and enjoy a day of friendly competitio­n, but it also served as a crucial fundraisin­g initiative to support the club’s ongoing endeavours.
