Train for a better ride with Ride Forever

-

Summer. The time where the country relaxes and recoups, with warm weather, spending time in the sun, and road trips with friends and whānau.

While some of us would happily stay inside the safety of our cars with the windows down, there are many who would much prefer to feel the wind on their face, smell the rubber on the road, and race like the wind on their motorcycle.

It’s this time of year where riders get their gear on and ride some of Northland’s most beautiful roads, like the Mangakahia Road loop or Waipoua Forest-Russell-Whangarei loop. But, to truly get the most out of every ride, the best thing riders can do is upgrade their skills. And the best way to do that is with a Ride Forever course.

Ride Forever is an ACC initiative, aimed at giving riders sound information and access to world-class training with renowned coaches (with three provider companies ready to train you in Northland), so that they can make better choices. But don’t just take our word for it.

Meet Kane. Kane’s been riding for the last 12 months. After returning to New Zealand from overseas, Kane thought there was no time like the present to learn to ride. He was hooked immediately, now owns a KTM rc390 and enjoys riding on the Northland East Coast roads.

Kane’s favourite part about riding is the connection to the journey, “You feel more and see more.”

Like all motorcyclists, Kane realises that his passion comes with risk. He has completed a Bronze Ride Forever course to help equip him with the skills necessary to look after himself on the road.

I want to get full enjoyment and positive experiences that I can when I ride and to do it safely – I’m too old to be silly.” “Kane went into his course and had his bad habits outlined by the instructor, and came out with more confidence and improved behaviours, especially his control on corners. He enjoyed the constant feedback and meeting other riders at a similar level to him to bounce off and learn from.

He would “definitely” recommend Ride Forever to other riders. “It increases your awareness and confidence while learning and [improving your skills].”
