Deadhead aga­pan­thus un­less you re­ally want them ev­ery­where, in­clud­ing in your neigh­bours' gar­dens. If you've had a hot, dry sum­mer, cul­ti­vate and add plenty of or­ganic mat­ter to hard, com­pacted soils. Good ground prepa­ra­tion will make a big dif­fer­ence to au­tumn plant­ing. Cut back shrubs that don’t flower in win­ter or early spring, and feed those that do. Camel­lias, rhodo­den­drons and aza­leas will re­spond with glo­ri­ous win­ter blooms Check out all your stakes and ties. Re­move those that are no longer needed and ad­just those that are.
