Plans to de­velop site of old su­per­mar­ket

A for­mer Whanga¯ rei su­per­mar­ket site which has been va­cant four years could be­come a bustling cen­tre with spe­cial­ist med­i­cal fa­cil­i­ties and big-brand stores.

North­land Dis­trict Coun­cil, the owner of the build­ing and for­mer carpark on the corner of Kens­ing­ton and Kamo roads, has done a deal with Ar­gyle Es­tates Ltd to de­velop a cen­tre likely to house a med­i­cal cen­tre, associated rooms and retail spa­ces.

Ar­gyle Es­tates Ltd hinted some ten­ants were al­ready on board.

An in­de­pen­dent val­u­a­tion re­port puts the value of the Kens­ing­ton project be­tween $13 mil­lion and $16.5 mil­lion.

The 9967sq m site com­prises a par­cel of 12 lots and at Septem­ber 2015 had an es­ti­mated value of $5.5m.
