Truck technicians take on world

Whangarei Report - - NEWS -

Five Scania truck technicians from Whanga¯ rei will take on the world after finishing top equal in the Asia-pacific region.

The All Torque, All Noise team comprises Daniel Halton, Tom Hicks, Scott Cann, Braden Olsen and Craig Lucas, who work at Cableprice's Whanga¯ rei branch.

In late September, the team competed in the Scania Top Team regional final in Kuala Lumpur against seven Asia-pacific teams. At the one-day event, the team had to complete a range of challenging technical tasks including a theory-based exercise. The men finished first equal with the Chinese team.

Both teams will now travel to Sweden in December to compete in the global final, where they will face off against 10 other teams for the $89,504 prize.

The Whanga¯ rei team's win is impressive as Halton and Lucas have both only worked on Scania trucks for 18 months, while the Chinese had a minimum of five years' experience.

Cableprice Whanga¯ rei operations manager Iain Hunt said he was enormously proud of the team for making it to the world final.
