What can I do about skinny rhubarb stalks?

Feed the plant. Sheep pellets, chicken manure, blood and bone, compost and all-purpose chemical fertilisers should work, but take care not to burn the crown if using the latter. Water rhubarb in dry weather, and be aware that plants are best divided every three or four years. Do the job before the weather warms up, slicing through the clump with a sharp spade and replanting in a sunny spot with rich soil. Don’t pull stalks from the new plant until its second year.
