GMO free

Whangarei Report - - OPINION -

We were disappointed to see that the original Northland Regional Plan did not consider any precautionary approach to the introduction of genetically modified organisms (GMOS) in the region.

However, now all the legal issues have been resolved, it is pleasing to see they have scheduled a special GMO hearing (October 30-31), especially as there has been growing evidence of risk to farming, yield loss and contamination in the environment from GMOS.

We are always buying the fruit, (tamarillos, citrus) avocados and other produce that your farmers supply the country from your wonderful vibrant region. We applaud the regional council’s move to consider precautions around GMOS and hope they uphold their community’s concerns and create a Gefree region.
