Getting out

Whangarei Report - - OPINION -

Who on earth “designed” the new car park at Tikipunga Library? A committee? A nondriver? A committee of nondrivers? Did anyone stop even for a moment to ask “How will the drivers get out of this car park?” Obviously not.

It is too small and narrow and has no space to turn around and drive out. This means you are forced to either drive across the curb and the lawn so you can drive out or to back out.

Backing out across one or two lanes of Paramount Parade is just ridiculous and dangerous. I feel sorry for the librarians there who will be first on the scene when a pedestrian, dog or mobility scooter is knocked flying as a driver watches the oncoming traffic and doesn’t notice them.

Having used it once I will NEVER use it again. Perhaps it could be turned around so we drive in, turn right and park with our car bonnets towards the path to the library. This may give us room to turn around and drive out.

For goodness sake, someone do something about it before the first accident. _ Fiona Bullivant Whareora
