She’s jealous of his La La Land co-star
They’re one of Hollywood’s most reclusive couples, so it was no surprise that Eva Mendes failed to join her partner Ryan Gosling at the Oscars despite the fact he was up for the coveted Best Actor trophy.
Indeed, the couple haven’t been together on a red carpet in the past two years, although they’ve been seen on several romantic restaurant dates and leisurely strolls in that time.
However, in recent months, even these outings have been rare and Ryan, 36, looked downcast as he was spotted heading to Eva’s 43rd birthday party last week. The reason? Insiders claim the A-list pair have been arguing about his close bond with his LaLa Land co-star Emma Stone.
Ahead of the Oscars, the actor had been desperate for his partner to join him for what could have been the biggest night of his career, but Eva refused, adding that he shouldn’t worry as Emma, 28, would be there for him.
“Ryan stormed out of the house and we’re not sure if he returned at all that night,” an insider reports. “But now Eva may not even want him back. She’s ready to call it quits on their relationship.”
Tensions between the two have flared up into “screaming matches”, says the insider, as Ryan’s star has risen – thanks in large part to his sizzling on-screen chemistry with Emma.
When the duo first met while filming 2011’s Crazy, Stupid,Love, they seemed to click off camera as well. “There were rumours Emma was crushing on Ryan and that they were getting flirty,” says the insider. “They denied it, but they connected again shooting GangsterSquad in 2013 and even more so doing LaLaLand.”

They reportedly spent hours on the set discussing kids and marriage in the wake of Emma’s split from Andrew Garfield, 33, with Ryan playing the role of love coach.
“When Eva got wind of their on-set chats, she grilled him every day and was convinced he was telling Emma about their problems,” tells the insider. “Eva’s been crazy-jealous and Ryan feels
stifled. She won’t hang out with their friends and hardly leaves the house.”
Friends suspect the challenges of parenting their daughters, Esmeralda, two, and Amada, 11 months, have also created a rift in the relationship and that Eva may have already spoken to a lawyer about a divorce. If so, things could turn nasty.
“Ryan would fight for custody of their children because of Eva’s troubled history,” says our insider, referring to her 2008 rehab stint. “Ryan has tried hard to make things work. It would be sad to see this relationship undone by Eva’s jealousy, but maybe they just weren’t meant to be.”
