DEMI BARES ALL

Her candid doco tugs at the heart strings

-

The last time I did an interview this long, I was on cocaine.” It’s a shockingly honest opening line for Demi Lovato’s latest documentary Simply

Complicated, but that’s only the beginning of her emotional revelations and powerful confessions.

The 25-year-old first rose to fame as a star on the Disney Channel, but behind her iconic toothy grin hid a darker reality. Although she has openly spoken about her struggles with bulimia, self-harm and bipolar disorder, the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer is now getting candid about her battle with alcohol and drug addiction.

Demi’s love for cocaine started at just 17, while she was still working for Disney. Despite going through rehab at 18, the young star continued to use drugs in secret.

The “Really Don’t Care” diva also did interviews about her sobriety while under the influence. “She was on air promoting this new way of life,” reveals her manager Phil McIntyre. “I was like, ‘You’re so full of it.’”

Discussing her recent relapse and eating disorder, Demi says, “It’s so weird to talk about this on camera.”

Since its release late last year, SimplyComplicated – which is available to watch for free as part of the YouTube Red streaming service – has racked up an amazing 14 million views.

Demi confides, “The last decade has taught me a lifetime of lessons. I’ve learned that secrets make you sick. I’m learning how to be a voice and not a victim.”
