DAVID’S SINGLE AND READY TO MINGLE

He’ s searching for a soul mate

-

By his own admission, David Seymour “murdered” almost every dance move on his way to becoming one of the most controversial contestants in Dancing with the Stars history. But there is one move he managed to master – the booty-popping twerk.

“I never foresaw that I would twerk on live television,” laughs David. “I never really pictured myself as an attractive man, but a number of women observed that I had quite shapely buttocks and that’s where the twerking suggestion came from.

“Producers were excited that they could get a serving member of parliament to twerk and I was thrilled to discover that I could actually do it. I murdered almost every other dance manoeuvre, but the pelvic thrust I managed.”

During his 10 weeks on the hit Three show, David was loved and loathed with a passion never seen before on the show. And while the 35-year-old Act Party leader admits that the public outpouring was a shock, he was most overwhelmed by the sudden influx of female fans.

“I went from Auckland Grammar to engineering school to politics, with a bit of rugby along the way, so sometimes in my life I can go weeks without seeing a female,” he grins. “I would have had more chance of meeting a woman if I joined the French Foreign Legion.

“But with Dancing, there are probably two or three women to every man in the audience and you have to suspect that many of the men there are under duress. It has helped me to connect with women. It’s been an enormous boost for me.”

So, is David single and ready to mingle? “Well, I’m mostly married to Parliament – politics is hard on relationships and it’s been hard on mine,” he tells. “Nevertheless, it would be lovely to find a soulmate and complete that part of my life. But I’ve got the philosophy that it is likely to happen when you’re not trying too hard.”

David’s dream woman would be a “kind person” who enjoys dining out. He adds, “I like good restaurants and good food. There is nothing better than good food and conversation.”
