Last seen in public at Wimbledon in July, the Duchess of Cambridge has disappeared from view for the past two months, leaving fans and courtiers scratching their heads.
“Kate’s all but vanished from view – both publicly and privately,” a palace insider tells Woman’sDay. “She’s rarely seen around the grounds of Kensington Palace even.”
Her husband Prince William, 36, has been shouldering the load of public appearances, cutting ribbons and shaking hands around the UK, and will embark on a solo tour of Africa this week, while Kate, 36, looks after their three kids, Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, three, and Prince Louis, five months.
“William is always anxious to get back to Kate’s side, though,” reports our insider. “There’s definitely something going on. Everyone’s surprised the Queen has agreed to such a lengthy time out of the spotlight for their star member of the family – she’s always
very wary of the public complaining that the royals don’t work hard enough.”
The mystery has sparked speculation Kate could be pregnant with the couple’s fourth child, with a close source claiming the duchess, who has previously suffered from terrible morning sickness, is “not quite her usual cheery self”.
“Everyone’s putting two and two together,” adds the insider. “A pregnancy may explain it all. A lot of staffers at Kensington Palace feel a baby announcement is almost inevitable at this point. While two pregnancies in one year might sound full-on, Kate is lucky to have an army of staff, and the best doctors at her beck and call.”
